A sense of space, light and colour are the things that inform my painting.  Rather than a detailed and purely figurative depiction of a place, I try to capture the atmosphere of the moment. 

From specialising in watercolours depicting exotic locations, I discovered that Thailand, Laos and Cambodia, Morocco, Spain and locations across the world needed a much deeper and more vibrant palette than previous work on English and northern European landscapes. From there I have progressed into acrylics and oils, gradually learning to abstract and emphasise the colours and shapes that contribute to the feeling of the moment.
